I was contacted by this scammer on a dating site, who quickly wanted to switch communication onto email correspondence. Any skepticism I had was quickly dissolved as I was not well-versed on how elaborate and in-depth these scams can be and that scammers WILL spend weeks and even months simply building trust with you. Here are some of the red flags I should've paid attention to: - "She" fell in love with me in less than 2 weeks. - "She" constantly mentioned how "she" couldn't stop thinking about me and even had dreams about me. - "She" quickly started to refer to herself as my future wife. - "She" decided she would visit me first and quickly ran into financial troubles. - When I suggested for me to visit her, "she" kept making up various excuses and claiming that if her visa is not completed within specified time, she will not be able to visit me at all for 5 years. - All my suggestions for additional contact methods such as Skype, Facebook, and Viber, were met with constant excuses. - When I asked if I could speak to her parents on the phone, it too was met with excuses as to why it won't be possible. 3 months down the line, I decided to do an image match search via Google Images to see if the photos she's been sending me of herself appear anywhere else online. I eventually came across a profile on VK social media site of a completely different person with another name and living in another city who had many of the same photos plus also photos with peers/friends and the city name. The scammer simply stole this girl's photos from her social media page to use for their own malicious ends. So the person on the photos is not the scammer, but rather someone whose photos were stolen. Unfortunately the fake name and email are easy to change, but many of the red flags will be the same, so please do be careful and keep an open mind. Do an image match search on google for the photos they send you, and offer alternate means of contact, particularly webcam chats, which majority of the time they'll deny.
